Summer Fun in Barrie

Posted by on in Local Events

Summer is in full swing, and that means estival season is officially here. We’ve had quite the season thus far in Barrie. If you’re like me, you attended Barrie Waterfront Festival, Barrie Jazz & Blues Festival and, of course, the Craft Beer & BBQ Festival, although, the season is far from over. Here are a few more events to look forward to.

WayHome Music Festival

Without argument, the inaugural WayHome is poised to be the biggest and best musical festival in the history of Barrie. The huge festival lineup includes: Neil Young and Promise of the Real, Sam Smith, Kendrick Lamar, Alt-J, Modest Mouse, The Decemberists and much more. The festival takes place at Burl’s Creek Event Grounds July 24-25 – and there are still some tickets left.

July 31 – August 3rd, make a point to visit the 4th annual Kempenfest on Barrie’s scenic waterfront. This year, there will be 350+ exhibitors, and over 200,000 visitors over the event’s four-day operation. There’s music, art and much more. You can explore the full line-up here and plan your weekend.

Barrie Dragon Boat Festival

Since 2003, the Barrie Dragon Boat Festival has raised over $1.5 million for a variety of local charities including the Barrie Public Library. Thirteen years later, the annual Barrie Dragon Boat Festival, presented by Tim Hortons, will take place at Barrie's Heritage Park August 22, 2015. If you’re interested, there are still a few spots left.

Barrie Film Festival

With over a 100 public events and screenings per year, the Barrie Film Festival is committed to screening the best of the best in Independent cinema, featuring films from Canada and around the world. There are still a few public screenings left for the season. You can check the schedule here.

There is so much to do in Barrie – so get out there and take it all in! Maybe I’ll see you there!
