Sean’s Top 5 Smart Gadgets for the Home

Posted by on in Sean Style
Remember when the “clapper” lighting system was all the rage? Well, technology has come a really long way in the last decade. I think you’ll agree that these five smart home gadgets deserve a round of applause.

1. Nest Learning Thermostat

The Nest Learning Thermostat is a must-have for your home. This is going to save you money on unused air-conditioning and heating. This smart little device is a fast learner! In about a week, it learns your schedule and the temperature you keep your house. It then programs itself to control your home's internal temperature. Or, you can manually adjust things from your smartphone. Amazing. The Nest comes with a price tag of $250.00, but the company claims it will save you up to 20% on your bills!

 2. LG HomeChat

How often do you find yourself at the grocery store and can’t remember what you need? Believe it or not, you can just ask your appliances. In fact, the LG HomeChat allows you to text message them with a lot of your requests. Text your LG Smart Oven, washer or smart refrigerator and check in on food supplies or turn on the washer cycles. You can even let all your appliances know you're on vacation. This is going to save you money and conserve energy because you aren’t needlessly using your appliances. Your fridge might even respond just to wish you a great trip!

3. Goji Smart Lock

Goji is one smart cookie. This intelligent lock is built with the latest Bluetooth technology. It displays your name and alerts via text message and email with photos of whoever appears at your door. Let’s talk about security. TheGoji Smart Lock features bank-level security algorithms, 128-bit encryption and it connects to your home Wi-Fi network for access when you are away from home. And it looks pretty cool, too.

4. Alima

The Alima Smart Indoor Air Quality Monitor detects formaldehyde, benzene, ethylene glycol, acetone, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, temperature and humidity. It learns your environmental habits to help you eliminate sources of pollution. We’re talking seriously clean air here. The Alima will help protect your health and improve your wellness. Sounds pretty great to me.

5.  Hue "personal wireless" bulbs

Hue bulbs really are a bright idea. This LED bulb is programmable and can produce different colours of light – all while saving you money. You can tune, dim and control lighting from your iPhone or iPad, no matter where in the world you are. The hue bulb uses up 80% less power than a traditional light bulb.

Which of these would you want in your home? Tweet me your favourites, I’d love to hear from you.
