The question most people have is how they can make a difference. One major way, currently on the rise, is the collection and recycling of rainwater using rain barrels. With this in mind, I’m offering rain barrels to residents of my smart town, which helps you (as a homeowner) further reduce your water needs. The use of rain barrels saves you money and reduces energy used by municipalities to treat and pump water and sewage – lowering the carbon footprint of your community. It also, importantly, reduces storm run-off (i.e. soil, fertilizer, oil, pesticides and other contaminants) that seeps into local water sources.
The water you save using rain barrels can be used for various tasks outside of your home, which is huge if you consider outdoor home irrigation accounts for nearly 40% of residential water use during the summer season. Collected water creates an inexpensive, green way to tend to your lawn, wash your cars and pets. Rainwater doesn’t have the salt and other chemicals found in tap water making it a great choice for your garden.
Helping you and your family reduce your annual water consumption is one of the many priorities of Sean Homes. As we learn the value of clean, safe water and how scarce it truly is, we can take steps to protect it and to get it to people who lack access today.
